Our 7-step setup

From nothing to live Shopping Ads — 2 weeks.

01
Merchant Center account
Account claim + verification, business info, tax ID, shipping addresses. Google verification can take 3–5 days — we start day one.
02
Website + domain claim
Claim domain via DNS/GA/GSC, verify site via upload. Both needed for feed approval to go through.
03
Product feed configuration
Source feed from your store (Shopify/Woo/Magento native plugins, or custom XML/CSV). Per-country feed splits if selling EU-wide.
04
Shipping setup
Per-country shipping rules, free shipping thresholds, weight/dimension rules, estimated delivery times. Accuracy required — mismatch = disapproval.
05
Tax configuration
VAT registration per EU country you ship to, OSS rules for EU VAT post-2021, exemption handling for B2B. Irish sellers shipping cross-border needs careful setup.
06
Feed diagnostics zero-out
The actual work — resolving every error, every warning, most notices. This is where most sellers give up. We don't leave issues unresolved.
07
Ads linking + Performance Max
Link to Google Ads, set up Performance Max for Shopping, exclude branded terms if running Brand Search separately. Free listings first, then paid.
The disapproval triggers

The nine things Google will disapprove for.

These are not warnings — they remove products from Shopping entirely until fixed. Knowing them up-front saves weeks of back-and-forth.

Price mismatch
Price in feed doesn't match price on landing page at time of crawl. Tolerance ~3% — any more = disapproval.
Availability mismatch
Feed says 'in stock' but landing page shows out of stock (or hidden 'add to cart' button). Auto-disapproval.
Image quality
Under 100×100px, contains watermarks or text overlays, placeholder images, low-quality JPEG artifacts.
Missing GTIN
Required for most branded products. 'Does not apply' accepted for handmade, vintage, custom, or brand-new launched products only.
Misleading title
Title contains promotional text ('SALE', 'FREE SHIPPING'), ALL CAPS, or doesn't match the product on landing page.
Restricted content
Categories Google won't serve: weapons, adult, tobacco, gambling products, counterfeit goods. Handled at category level.
Broken landing page
404, 5xx error, interstitial login required, or redirect loop. Landing page crawls happen weekly — broken pages get disapproved.
Shipping mismatch
Feed says free shipping, landing page shows €5 shipping. Feed specs must match what a user actually pays at checkout.
Policy violations
Implied health claims, misleading product descriptions, before/after imagery, manipulated review counts.
Start with free listings, graduate to Performance Max

You don't need ad budget to benefit from Merchant Center.

Since 2020 Google has made product feeds eligible for free surfaces — the Shopping tab, Google Images, YouTube, Gemini-powered shopping. Your feed is doing work even before you run a single ad.

Free listings (Shopping tab, Images, YouTube)
Eligible automatically once feed is approved. Impressions and clicks at zero cost, reported in Merchant Center.
Google Search Shopping modules
Products appear in blue-link search results with price + image. Growing steadily in coverage since 2023.
Performance Max for retail
One campaign, runs across Shopping + YouTube + Display + Gmail + Discover. Best for retail accounts with €1.5k+/month budget.
Remarketing via Customer Match
Upload email list, retarget on Search + Display. Combines with your feed for dynamic product ads to prior customers.
What's changing

Merchant Center Next — migration realities.

Google rolled out "Merchant Center Next" through 2025. Most legacy accounts have been migrated. Here's what's different and what to watch for.

Site crawl replaces some feed fields
Google can auto-extract price, availability, title from structured data and crawl. Reduces manual feed work but raises the bar on schema quality.
Simpler UI, less granularity
Some advanced reports and diagnostic tools have been moved or simplified. We know where the new equivalents live.
Improved free-listing prominence
Free listings get more surface area in search results under MC Next. Feed quality matters more than it did in 2023.
Automatic attribute improvements
Google now auto-enhances some titles and descriptions. You can override but most sellers benefit from the enhancement.
Frequently asked

Shopping feed questions.

If the feed is clean and website is verified: 3–5 days. Realistic including feed clean-up and policy fixes: 2 weeks. We run free listings during that period so you're collecting impressions while we prepare paid campaigns.
Account-level suspensions (misrepresentation, policy violation) require an appeal with demonstrated corrections. We handle the appeal writing and resubmission. Most account-level suspensions resolve in 1–4 weeks with a properly written appeal.
If you haven't already, yes — Google is forcing migration through late 2025. We migrate legacy accounts, verify feed continuity, and catch the quirks (like lost custom diagnostic rules) that break during migration.
Yes — one Merchant Center account can host feeds for multiple target countries (UK, DE, FR, NL, etc.). Each country needs its own tax configuration and typically its own feed for currency, language, and shipping rules.
