Why readiness matters

Four ways unprepared launches quietly fail.

Marketplaces don't send rejection letters — they quietly suppress listings, inflate fees, or flag your account. Pre-launch work is cheaper than post-rejection recovery.

Amazon suspends sloppy listings fast

Thin product descriptions, wrong category, missing compliance info, sub-par imagery — Amazon's listing team will reject or pull your products quietly. Recovering takes weeks. Pre-launch prep avoids the whole mess.

GTINs, EANs, UPCs, ASINs — it matters

Every marketplace has its own identifier rules. Amazon needs GTINs. eBay wants MPNs. Etsy uses their own SKU system. Without the right codes, listings either can't upload or can't be found. Boring admin that blocks everything.

Marketplace imagery is not your imagery

Amazon demands white background, main image fills 85% of frame, minimum resolution, no props. Your pretty lifestyle shots won't pass. Marketplace-compliant photography is a distinct shoot — most brands only learn after rejection.

Product dimensions drive fees

Amazon FBA fees are based on exact dimensions + weight. Get these wrong by a centimetre and you're in the wrong size tier, paying 40% more in fulfillment fees forever. Accurate measurement up-front saves thousands annually.

How we run readiness work

Three phases, sequenced deliberately.

Audit first so we know the scope. Build second so changes are scoped. Launch last so nothing goes live half-baked. No phase skips another.

Phase 1 · Audit

What you have vs. what marketplaces need

Current catalogue inventory (CSV/database export)
Image library quality check (resolution + composition)
Product data completeness (descriptions, SKUs, dimensions)
Category/brand approvals required per marketplace
Identifier coverage (GTINs, EANs, UPCs, MPNs)
Phase 2 · Build

Closing the gap systematically

GTIN purchases via GS1 Ireland where needed
Marketplace-compliant image production or re-edits
Title, bullet, and description writing per marketplace spec
Category selection & backend keyword research
Compliance documents (MSDS, test certs) per SKU
Phase 3 · Launch

First listings up, monitored, refined

Upload via flat files or Seller Central UI
Listing quality check post-upload (suppressed listings)
Initial Buy Box strategy for Amazon
Feed sync from master catalogue to each channel
Post-launch performance monitoring (first 30 days)
The full pre-launch checklist

Everything that must be true before launch.

Eighteen items across three categories. Most brands complete about half before realising the rest matter. We surface all of them up-front so the launch is a launch, not a rescue.

Product data

  • Titles written per marketplace
  • Bullet points (5 per Amazon listing)
  • Long-form descriptions
  • Backend search terms / keywords
  • Variants structured properly
  • Parent-child relationships mapped

Imagery & media

  • White-background main images
  • Lifestyle / in-use shots
  • Size & scale reference images
  • Infographic images for key specs
  • Video (Amazon Brand Registered sellers)
  • Minimum resolution compliant

Compliance & identifiers

  • GTIN/EAN/UPC per SKU
  • CE / safety certificates where required
  • Ingredient lists (food/beauty)
  • Country of origin declarations
  • Tariff codes (post-Brexit IE→UK)
  • VAT registration per market
Per-channel readiness

Each marketplace wants different things.

The data, imagery, and compliance that Amazon demands aren't what Etsy demands. We prep for the channels you're actually launching on — not a generic template.

Amazon
GTINs · category approval · MSDS · A+ content
eBay
GTIN/MPN · item specifics · promoted listings
Etsy
Handmade/vintage policy · taxonomy · attributes
Google Shopping
Merchant Center feed · GTINs · free listings
Meta Commerce
Catalogue feed · Instagram Shopping · tagging
Not On The High Street
Application · curation · British-made provenance
Common scenarios

When readiness work pays off most

Pre-launching on Amazon for the first time
Expanding to eBay from your own store
Getting Etsy-approved for curated marketplaces
Multi-marketplace launch in parallel
Post-rejection recovery and relaunch
Catalogue migration to new seller account
Seasonal/holiday catalogue prep
Brand protection enrolment (Amazon Brand Registry)
Honest answers

Readiness questions, honestly answered.

Depends on catalogue size and starting point. A 20-SKU brand with clean data and good photography: 2-3 weeks. A 200-SKU brand with gaps in everything: 2-3 months. We scope honestly after the audit — no ambiguous quotes. Rushing readiness almost always means rejection or suspension later.
Usually yes. Amazon's main image rules are strict (white background, 85% fill, no props). eBay is looser. Etsy rewards styled, brand-led imagery. Using a single set across all channels means passing some but failing others. Budget for either a marketplace-compliant shoot, or per-channel post-production edits.
GTIN = Global Trade Item Number. The umbrella term for EAN (Europe) and UPC (US) barcodes. Amazon, Google Shopping, and increasingly eBay require them. Get yours from GS1 Ireland (gs1ie.org) — €260 one-time fee + annual €230 for up to 1,000 SKUs. Avoid the €10 'GTIN for sale' services — Amazon rejects them.
Yes. Prerequisite is a registered trademark (IE/EU/UK Intellectual Property Office). We handle the application paperwork, image/brand asset collection, category approval requests, and A+ content creation. Takes 2-4 weeks with trademark in hand. Brand Registered sellers get significantly better tools — Enhanced Brand Content, Brand Analytics, anti-counterfeit controls.
Once you're launched, feeds handle ongoing updates. We set up automated feeds between your main catalogue (Shopify, WooCommerce, ERP) and each marketplace — so price/inventory/new-product changes sync without manual re-uploads. Feed tools: Channable, DataFeedWatch, Feedonomics, or platform-native (Shopify channels app).
Optional. Readiness is the launch sprint. If you want someone running your Amazon/eBay/Etsy presence long-term, see our Marketplaces service page — that's the ongoing management offering (listings, pricing, advertising, customer service).
