Why WordPress

Four reasons it's still the right call for most business sites.

WordPress sometimes gets dismissed as old-fashioned. The reality is more nuanced — and for most Irish SMB sites, it's still the strongest choice.

Runs ~43% of the web

From small Irish cafés to major publishers. When half the web uses it, finding developers and plugins is never hard.

Content editing your team will actually use

The block editor (Gutenberg) is mature. Non-technical staff can update pages without breaking the site.

Plugin for almost anything

Forms, booking, e-commerce, membership, multilingual — usually a well-supported plugin exists already.

You own the code and content

Open-source. Your hosting, your data, your control. No vendor holding your business hostage at renewal.

How we build WordPress

Three layers: theme, plugins, custom.

'Cheap WordPress' means downloading a template and slapping 40 free plugins on it. That's not what we do. Here's the actual approach.

Theme & design

Custom, not cookie-cutter

Custom-built themes (not templates)
Full Site Editing where it fits
Responsive, mobile-first
Design system integration
Brand-consistent components
Plugins & extensions

Only what earns its keep

Plugin audit & cleanup first
Premium plugins (not free-tier bloat)
Custom plugins when needed
Performance-aware selection
Security-first vetting
Custom functionality

Beyond what plugins offer

Custom post types & fields (ACF)
Custom Gutenberg blocks
REST API endpoints
Headless WordPress setups
WP-CLI automation
Our approach

Four things that separate good WP work from cheap WP work.

Any freelancer can install WordPress. Doing it properly — sustainably, securely, with content your team can own — is a different skill.

We audit before we add

Plugin bloat is the #1 WordPress performance killer. Every plugin is a liability — we add only what clearly earns its keep.

Performance-first hosting

Proper managed WP hosting (Kinsta, WP Engine, Rocket.net). Not the €4/mo shared hosting that'll embarrass you on Core Web Vitals.

Security and updates as standard

Weekly update schedule, firewall, malware scanning, backups. WP neglected is WP hacked — maintenance isn't optional.

Built for the editor, not just the visitor

Custom blocks, structured content, preview modes. Your team updates content without calling us — which is the whole point.

Is it a fit?

WordPress is the right answer more often than not — but not always.

For most Irish SMB business websites, WordPress done properly is hard to beat. But it isn't the universal answer. Here's where we draw the line.

Right fit
We should talk if…
You want a site your team can update without us every week
Your plans include blogging, content marketing, or regular updates
You need standard features that mature plugins solve well
You want control — own hosting, own code, exportable data
You're open to a maintenance retainer — WP needs care
Not a fit
We'll point you elsewhere if…
You want a tiny 3-page brochure with no updates — Webflow or Squarespace may be faster
You're building a SaaS product — see Custom Frameworks / SaaS Development
You won't invest in hosting + maintenance — WP abandoned is WP hacked
You need extreme real-time performance at massive scale — consider headless or custom

Common questions

WordPress questions, honestly answered.

The questions Irish SMBs ask us most often.

Often, yes. It powers ~43% of the web for good reasons: mature, flexible, huge plugin ecosystem, editors your team understand. It's not always the answer (SaaS products, real-time apps, ultra-high-performance needs don't fit), but for content-led business sites with regular updates, it remains hard to beat. We'll tell you honestly when something else fits better.
Almost always .org (self-hosted). Full control, any plugin, any theme, any host. WordPress.com (Automattic's hosted offering) has its place for small bloggers but limits what you can build. For business sites, .org with proper hosting gives you far more runway.
The reputation comes from abandoned sites with outdated plugins, not WordPress itself. Properly maintained WP sites (weekly updates, quality plugins only, decent hosting, a firewall, monitoring) are as secure as anything else. The problems come when nobody's minding the shop. See our Maintenance service.
Yes — it's a common project. We handle content migration, redesign to WP, URL mapping with 301 redirects to preserve SEO, image imports, and team training. Typical timeline: 4-8 weeks depending on content volume. Migrations get scoped properly after we see your current site.
We build on the block editor. It's mature now (2026), much better than early versions, and where WordPress is going long-term. Custom blocks we build for your site give your team clean, structured editing — no more breaking the layout every time they add content.
WordPress wins on: flexibility, ecosystem size, ownership, scale. Webflow wins on: design freedom out of the box, simpler hosting, visual-editor polish for designers. Squarespace wins on: absolute simplicity for non-technical owners of small sites. We'll match the platform to your situation — not push WP blindly.
