Pricing for Irish businesses

Stripe's Irish fee structure — plain English.

Fees change; check stripe.com for current rates. Below are typical rates as of Spring 2026 for Irish merchants to give you a working model.

EEA consumer card
1.5% + €0.25
Irish + EU card transactions. The cheapest bucket.
UK card (post-Brexit)
2.5% + €0.25
UK consumer + commercial cards — no longer EEA rates.
International card
3.25% + €0.25
Non-EEA cards (US, AU, APAC). Higher interchange costs abroad.
Commercial cards (B2B)
+0.5% surcharge
Additional on top of base rate — corporate card interchange is higher.
SEPA Direct Debit
0.8% · capped €5
Much cheaper than cards for EUR payments. Great for subscriptions.
Currency conversion
+2% markup
If customer pays in non-payout currency. Usually worth it for conversion rate.
Instant payouts (optional)
1% of payout
Standard payouts 2-7 business days free. Instant is faster at cost.
Disputes / chargebacks
€20 per dispute
Charged win or lose. Good Radar rules reduce these.
Heads up: These are Stripe's public rates. Volume-based custom pricing kicks in around €100k/mo — we can introduce you to a Stripe sales rep if your volume warrants it.
The honest view

When Stripe isn't the best fit.

High-ticket, low-margin businesses
1.5%+ on a €10k invoice is €150 — meaningful on tight margins. SEPA or bank transfer is near-free; push B2B customers to those where possible.
Cash-on-delivery / offline-first markets
Stripe is digital-native. Businesses where 60%+ of customers want cash or bank transfer still need the traditional rails too.
Restricted industries
Firearms, adult content, gambling, crypto, some supplements, pharmaceuticals — Stripe declines or requires special approval. Check their acceptable use policy first.
Account freezes without warning
Stripe can freeze accounts for risk review with little communication. Rare for established businesses but real. For business-critical payments, have a backup processor wired.
Small teams without dev resource
No-code checkout (Payment Links) works but you hit a ceiling fast. Without a developer, Shopify's payment integration or similar drag-drop commerce is friendlier.
EU-only businesses preferring EU vendors
Stripe Ireland Ltd is EU-based (headquartered in Dublin, even!) — but if "non-US-HQ processor" is a hard requirement, Adyen or Mollie may fit the procurement checklist better.
Frequently asked

Stripe questions.

Depends on the surface. One-off Payment Links: same day. Embedded Payment Element on a custom site: 3-7 days. Full subscription billing + customer portal: 2-4 weeks. Marketplace with Stripe Connect: 6-10 weeks. We scope after seeing your exact flow.
Yes — one Stripe account per legal entity. If you have one company running multiple brands/websites, each can have its own Stripe account. Payouts route to the matching bank account. Useful for bookkeeping and scoped reporting.
You get a notification in the dashboard with a response deadline. Upload evidence (delivery proof, customer emails, product description). Stripe submits to the card network. You win about 40-60% of well-documented disputes.
Yes — Stripe pays out to any EUR bank account, Revolut Business counts. Irish IBAN + BIC, same as any traditional bank. Payouts hit within 2-3 business days on standard schedule.
Payment Links are hosted by Stripe — send a URL, they pay, no code needed. Payment Element is embedded in your site — you control the page; Stripe renders the payment form inside. Links are for quick wins; Element is for proper product checkouts.
