Why we default to Shopify

Shopify earns the default for 80% of ecommerce briefs.

Infrastructure you never touch
Hosting, SSL, PCI compliance, DDoS protection, CDN, uptime SLA — Shopify handles all of it. No server ops. No 3am downtime calls.
Payments + tax sorted
Shopify Payments in Ireland, multi-currency, auto VAT calculation, OSS compliance. Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay, Klarna all toggle on.
Inventory + fulfilment native
Multi-location inventory, low-stock alerts, purchase orders, returns management, shipping label printing, carrier integrations — all core, no apps.
Customer accounts + marketing
Accounts, wishlists, reviews, email flows, abandoned cart recovery, segmentation — either native or first-party Shopify apps (Klaviyo, Shop).
Real shipping integrations
An Post, DHL, DPD, FedEx, Fastway all pre-integrated. Real-time rates at checkout, tracking sync, label printing. Not bolt-on approximations.
Analytics that matter
Sales by product/variant/channel, cohort retention, LTV, acquisition channel attribution — built-in. Exports to GA4, Meta, Google Ads cleanly.
Which Shopify tier is right

Basic, Shopify, Advanced, Plus — the honest guide.

Shopify wants you on the highest tier. We tell you the actual threshold where each tier earns its price. No upsell.

Basic — €36/mo
Up to €15k/mo revenue
First store, one location, single-currency. Transaction fee 2% if not using Shopify Payments. Fine starting point; migrate up when you outgrow.
Shopify — €105/mo
€15k–€50k/mo revenue
5 staff accounts, pro reports, abandoned cart recovery, gift cards. Transaction fee drops to 1%. Sweet spot for most growing SMB stores.
Advanced — €384/mo
€50k–€200k/mo revenue
15 staff, custom reports, third-party calculated shipping rates, lowest card rates. Worth it only when Shopify Payments savings > tier difference.
Plus — €2,300+/mo
€200k+/mo revenue
Checkout customisation, 10 expansion stores, B2B wholesale, private apps, SLA-backed support. Enterprise-only. Great for the right business.
How custom we go

Theme customisation — from paid theme to fully bespoke.

2–3 weeks
Theme light-touch
Start from a premium theme (Impulse, Warehouse, Dawn+), adapt colours/type/layout rhythm to your brand, populate content, launch. Good for <€30k annual revenue DTC brands.
Tight budget · urgent launch · standard product catalogue
4–6 weeks
Theme + custom sections
Paid theme as base, plus 3–6 bespoke sections (custom hero, lookbook, comparison blocks, quiz/configurator). Mix of off-shelf and tailored.
Most mid-market clients · distinct brand personality · some non-standard content
10–16 weeks
Bespoke theme build
Fully custom Liquid + Hydrogen theme matching brand guidelines exactly. Premium lookbook-style sites, complex merchandising, custom cart/checkout UX. Usually Shopify Plus.
Premium brands · editorial-led · flagship DTC
Where Shopify doesn't win

When we recommend something else.

Complex B2B with quote workflows
Shopify B2B (Plus only) is improving but still limited. For serious quote-to-order + account hierarchies, BigCommerce B2B or Magento edges ahead.
Massive catalogues (50k+ SKUs)
Shopify handles it but performance and admin UX degrade. PIM-fed systems on Magento or custom often better suit this scale.
Multi-brand / multi-storefront at scale
Shopify Plus allows 10 stores per account but each is semi-isolated. BigCommerce or a headless setup with shared backend can be cleaner.
Non-commerce content needs
Shopify as a blog or content-hub is weak. If content is 60%+ of your site's purpose, pair Shopify with WordPress/Sanity for the content side.
Very bespoke checkout logic
Shopify checkout is controlled. You get Checkout Extensibility on Plus (JavaScript UI extensions). For fully custom checkout, you'd need a different platform.
Tight margins + high transaction volume
Shopify Payments fees (1.5–2.5%) + monthly plan cost can pinch at razor-thin margins on low-value items. Sometimes WooCommerce self-hosted is cheaper.
The apps we actually install

Curated app stack — not an app-a-palooza.

Shopify has 8,000+ apps. Stuffing your store with them slows it down and bloats cost. Here's the short list we trust.

Frequently asked

Shopify questions.

Theme light-touch €4,500–€9,000. Theme + custom sections €12,000–€28,000. Bespoke Shopify build €40,000–€120,000+. Shopify subscription (€36–€2,300/mo) is separate. We quote per project after a scoping call.
Yes — product data, orders, customers, URLs all migrated. Typical migration adds 2–4 weeks. SEO-preserving redirects are standard. Historical order data imports (usually to Year-1-prior) for customer service continuity.
Foundations are strong: clean URLs, fast CDN, mobile-first themes, schema-ready. Product/collection page SEO is where work is needed — we do keyword-mapped meta, schema for products/reviews/FAQ, and internal linking strategy as part of every build.
Shopify Payments for simplicity and fee reduction (no 1–2% Shopify surcharge). Stripe for broader product flexibility if you need subscription billing outside Shopify or cross-platform ops. Usually Shopify Payments wins for the store's own transactions.
