Where multi-channel breaks

Four ways Irish sellers get burned on marketplaces.

Every one of these costs real money — sometimes real customers. All fixable with the right setup from day one.

Stock out of sync across channels

Amazon sells your last unit. So does eBay. 15 minutes later. You've oversold and a customer's furious.

Listings manually duplicated

Write once on Shopify, re-type for Amazon, reformat for eBay, redo for Etsy. Hours per product, per update.

No visibility on which channel pays

Amazon fees, eBay fees, Etsy fees all different. Without proper attribution, you don't know which channel actually earns.

Policy violations and suspensions

Each marketplace has its own rules, categories, and restrictions. One wrong move and the revenue stream stops cold.

Three core areas

Setup, sync, and optimisation — the three pillars of marketplace success.

Most sellers focus on one, sometimes two. The ones that win treat all three as equal priorities.

The honest trade-off

Marketplaces give reach. They take control.

The honest truth: marketplaces aren't free — you pay in fees, policies, and independence. Here's what you gain and what you give up.

What you gain
Reach and discovery
Hundreds of millions of existing shoppers
Built-in trust and reviews infrastructure
Search traffic you don't have to earn from scratch
Payments, disputes, returns handled by the platform
Faster route to international sales
What you give up
Control and margin
12-18% in platform fees on every sale
Policy changes you can't negotiate
No customer data — the platform keeps it
Suspension risk if you violate rules
Harder to build brand vs. 'just another seller'
Is it a fit?

Marketplaces add reach — but take a cut along the way.

They're excellent for the right business. They destroy the wrong one. Here's the honest assessment.

Right fit
We should talk if…
You already sell — and want reach beyond your own site
You have products that suit marketplace discovery
You can handle marketplace-level shipping and returns
You're ready to commit to marketplace rules and quality standards
You want reduced dependency on a single channel
Not a fit
We'll point you elsewhere if…
You've not yet launched your own store — start there first
Your margins are too thin to absorb marketplace fees (typically 15%+)
You can't meet delivery SLAs marketplaces demand
Your product is one-off or custom — marketplaces reward repeatable SKUs

Common questions

Marketplace questions, honestly answered.

The questions Irish SMBs ask us most often.

Depends entirely on your product and customer. Amazon UK dominates for volume and reach but has the highest fees and toughest standards. eBay Ireland suits certain categories and has genuine Irish buyer traffic. Etsy is specific to handmade / craft / vintage. We'll tell you honestly based on your product, not what we'd rather sell.
Realistic: marketplace fees run 12-18% on top of payment processing. If your margin is under 40%, marketplaces can erode profitability fast — especially with advertising costs factored in. We do margin modelling before launch, not after. Sometimes the honest answer is 'your own store earns more per unit — focus there'.
Yes, but the honest answer is 'near-real-time, with monitoring.' Most integrations run 2-15 minute sync intervals. True real-time is possible but expensive — and genuinely unnecessary for most Irish SMBs. We build in monitoring so when a sync fails, you know immediately, not after an oversell.
Post-Brexit selling UK → EU (and vice versa) needs proper setup: EORI numbers, IOSS for EU sales under €150, correct VAT registration per market, customs documentation. We've done this for enough Irish sellers to know where the edges are. Not something to figure out mid-suspension.
Both. Listing optimisation (titles, bullet points, images, A+ content) matters enormously on marketplaces — weak listings don't sell regardless of how many channels you're on. We can write/optimise listings, or integrate and hand that work to you. Your call.
It happens — usually from policy issues you didn't know about. We build in pre-checks (pricing, IP, category rules), help appeal suspensions if they occur, and always recommend multi-channel from day one so you're not dependent on any one platform's goodwill.
