Development Continuity

No single point of failure.

Development continuity means your agency can lose a developer, gain a client, or face a production crisis — and keep moving. We hold the knowledge, cover the gaps, and respond when something goes wrong.

Why continuity matters

Four ways development continuity fails without a plan.

Every agency has a point of failure. Most of them don't know what it is until something goes wrong.

The key developer leaves

Six months of undocumented knowledge walks out the door. The replacement takes 3 months to get up to speed — if they're any good.

A legacy system breaks

The site goes down at 2am. The developer who knew the codebase left two years ago. Nobody knows what to touch.

Client wants changes, team is full

Your best client needs something urgent. Your team is fully booked. You have nowhere to turn without a continuity partner.

Knowledge is siloed

One person knows the hosting, one knows the CMS, nobody knows the payment integration. You're one resignation away from a crisis.

What we document

Everything a replacement developer would need to know.

Continuity documentation isn't a README. It's the complete operational picture of a digital product.

Architecture decisions and their rationale
Hosting, DNS, and server configuration
Third-party service credentials and access
Build and deployment processes
Known issues and workarounds
Client-specific customisations
Dependency and update schedule
Emergency contact and escalation path
StandbyLow commitment

We're briefed on your codebase, hold documentation, and respond within 24 hours if something breaks.

Active backupMedium commitment

We maintain active awareness of your systems, handle routine updates, and are available same-day for incidents.

Embedded partnerHigh commitment

We're part of your ongoing development process — continuity is a built-in property, not a separate arrangement.

Common questions

Continuity questions answered.

The questions Irish SMBs ask us most often.

Documentation is part of it but not all of it. Real continuity means an external team has enough working knowledge to pick up and continue development if something happens internally — whether that's a key person leaving, a system failure, or a sudden capacity gap. We earn that knowledge through active involvement, not just reading docs.
Start with a structured knowledge transfer session. We document what they know, we shadow them on the codebase, and we build a parallel understanding of the systems. If that person leaves next month, we can continue. It typically takes 2–4 weeks to properly de-risk a single point of failure.
On-call support assumes someone turns up when things break and fixes it. Continuity assumes they already know the system well enough to fix it quickly and confidently. The first model is reactive; the second is prepared. Preparation requires actual prior engagement with the codebase.
For active continuity partners: within 2 hours during business hours, 4 hours outside. For standby arrangements: within 24 hours. Response time depends on the commitment level and is agreed explicitly in the engagement terms.
Continuity is insurance. The cost of the arrangement is predictable; the cost of an unexpected crisis is not. The agencies that find the most value in continuity are usually the ones who've had a crisis before without one.
Yes. This is one of the most common requests. We do a structured technical intake — review the codebase, document the architecture, audit the hosting — and establish continuity coverage from there. We'll tell you honestly if the site has issues that need addressing first.
