Revolut Business
Multi-currency banking without the bank markup.
For Irish businesses trading across Europe and beyond, Revolut Business replaces a traditional bank + FX broker + expense tool with one dashboard. Hold 25+ currencies, FX at interbank rate (+0.4% markup vs traditional 2-3%), team cards with spend controls, and a genuinely good mobile app.

Who it fits
The Irish business profile that wins with Revolut Business.
Cross-border trading businesses
Sell into UK/EU/US, receive in customers' currencies, pay suppliers abroad. FX savings alone usually pay for the subscription 5-10×.
Remote / hybrid teams
Team members travelling or based abroad. Corporate cards in their currency, instant top-ups, real-time spend visibility in the admin.
Digital agencies + consultancies
Clients pay in multiple currencies. Hold what you receive (no forced conversion), convert when rate favours you, pay contractors in their currency.
Finance teams wanting better expense visibility
Team cards with per-card limits, merchant category blocks, auto-categorised expenses, receipt capture in the mobile app, export to Xero/QuickBooks.
Startups allergic to traditional-bank friction
Bank account opens in 1-2 days vs 4-6 weeks for AIB/BOI. Modern dashboard, API access, no fax machines. Revolut's 30% of Irish startup banking for a reason.
Cash-heavy businesses needing idle-fund returns
Savings Vaults earn interest on idle EUR/GBP/USD. Not an investment platform but better than 0% on current account.

The honest view
Where Revolut Business falls short.
Account freezes + slow unfreezing
Revolut's risk engine will flag and freeze accounts during unusual activity patterns. Unfreeze process via chat support can take hours to days. Keep a backup bank account for emergencies.
Customer support is chat-only
No phone line. Chat responses usually fast but for complex issues, no one will jump on a call. Enterprise plans get dedicated reps.
Limited lending / overdraft
Revolut doesn't do business loans, overdrafts, or invoice financing in Ireland. Traditional banks still win here.
Cash handling — none
100% digital. No branches. Can't deposit cash. Not an option if your business takes meaningful cash daily.
Weekend FX surcharge
FX markup rises to 1% on weekends (when interbank markets are closed). Plan large conversions for weekdays.
Still relatively new — track record
Founded 2015; fully licensed in Ireland. Still less institutional legacy than AIB/BOI. Some B2B customers / suppliers may prefer traditional bank details.
Frequently asked
Revolut Business questions.
Yes — Revolut Bank UAB operates in Ireland under EU passporting from Lithuania's Central Bank. Deposits protected up to €100,000 under Lithuanian Deposit Insurance (same protection as Irish banks' €100k under DGS). Functionally equivalent; different regulator.
